Fall Schedule 2017

Written by M.

Oh, it’s that special time of year, the start of fresh season. You can just feel the excitement in the air as new series are about to launch and we finally get new episodes of our favorite series. The long wait is over. Next week we don’t have to search for what we possible need to watch now on TV, but we’ll have to make some tough choices on which show we watch and which shows we just ignore. As always there is an entire legion of new series fighting for your attention, how do you know what to watch? Well, this is where this article comes in handy. I’ve picked out all the new series of the mayor broadcasters, got a description and a trailer and put it down below. And off course, I’ve added my opinion. Please note, that I haven’t seen any episodes yet, just the trailers, so I don’t have any inside information.

ABC

The Good DoctorMondays at 10|9c

A young surgeon with autism and Savant syndrome is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: can a person who doesn’t have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives?

I can’t help but to compare this show to ‘House’, though in this case the main character will be blunt but not mean. And maybe a little less of the weird cases. Anyway, I’m interested, I will definitely watch this.

Kevin (Probably) Saves the WorldTuesdays at 10|9c

Kevin Finn (Jason Ritter) is not a good person. He’s not terrible, but he’s selfish, and clueless, and values material wealth and status over all else. And he’s beginning to realize that those things aren’t making him happy – in fact, he’s fairly miserable. Just when things seem to be at their worst, he finds himself tasked with an unbelievable mission… saving the world.

I can already say right now that this is not my show, I’m not even going to try this.

Marvel’s InhumansFridays at 9|8c

Marvel’s Inhumans explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where they are greeted with surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them. Now they must find a way to reunite with each other and return to their home before their way of life is destroyed forever.

This looks like my kind of show. I’m a huge fan of ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, so this show seems really exciting for me. Definitely a show for me to write reviews about.

The MayorTuesdays at 9:30|8:30c

Young rapper Courtney Rose needs his big break. For years he’s toiled away in a small inner-city apartment, making music in his junk-filled bedroom closet. Tired of waiting for opportunity, Courtney cooks up the publicity stunt of the century – running for mayor of his hometown in California to generate buzz for his music career. Unfortunately for Courtney, his master plan goes wildly awry, ending in the most terrifying of outcomes: an election victory. With the help of his mother and friends, including Valentina, Courtney will have to overcome his hubris if he wants to transform the struggling city he loves.

This could go either way. It could be the next new big comedy or it could sink before it even has time to swim. I will give this a try, mostly though because of Lea Michelle. I loved her in ‘Glee’ but I really hated ‘Scream Queens’.

Ten Days in the ValleySundays at 10|9c

Jane (Kyra Sedgwick) is an overworked producer and writer of a police series, who is not on the best terms with her ex, when her daughter Ali, goes missing in the middle of the night. What do you do when you are no longer shaping your own story? Who can you trust?

I can’t imagine this show not working, this must be a big hit. I can’t wait for it to start and you can expect reviews to come your way.

CBS

9JKLMondays at 8:30|7:30c

Josh Roberts, a divorced actor, lives in apartment 9K, with his family living in adjacent apartments: his parents live in 9J, while his brother, sister-in-law, and their newborn baby live in 9L. This unique situation prompts him to set boundaries while bonding with his family members.

To me this seems kinda lame, but who knows it could work. I’m at least giving it a chance.

Me, Myself and ITuesdays at 9:30|8:30c

The show looks at the life of Alex Riley, an inventor and businessman, at three points in his life: as a 14-year-old who moves to Los Angeles in 1991, as a 40-year-old dealing with the breakup of his marriage in the present day, and as a 65-year-old in 2042 who has just retired.

I like the trailer, but I’m not sure if this is going to work. But based on the trailer, I will give this a try.

SEAL TeamWednesdays at 9|8c

Failure is not an option for the Navy SEALs—the world’s most elite, Special Ops forces. In this action-packed new drama, these stealthy and fearless warriors conduct high-risk, clandestine missions against impossible odds.

A new show with David Boreanaz, who I’ve loved ever since his first appearance on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (my favorite series ever!) and I can’t wait to watch this. I’m interested into what the difference will be between ‘The Brave’ and this show, but let’s find out. Also, am I the only one who looks at this as ‘Seeley Booth the early years’?

S.W.A.T.Thursday, time unknown

A locally born and bred SWAT sergeant is torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in L.A. law enforcement.

Shemar Moore is back at television and he’s looking rough and so does this show. I like the trailer and I will be watching this.

Wisdom of the CrowdSundays at 8|7c

A tech innovator creates a cutting-edge crowd-sourcing hub to solve his own daughter’s murder, as well as revolutionizing crime solving in San Francisco.

As you probably guessed by now, I have a deep love for San Francisco. And most shows that are supposedly being set in San Francisco I watch, and yes, I know most shows aren’t even filmed in San Francisco. This show has the same feel of ‘APB’, which I liked, so I think I will like this show.

Young SheldonTuesdays at 8:30|7:30c

The series follows gifted 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper as he attends high school in East Texas and attempts to deal with the world around him while his otherwise normal family attempts to deal with him.

Do we even need to talk about this? If you like ‘The Big Bang Theory’, you need to watch this show.

FOX

GhostedSundays at 8:30|7:30c

A skeptic is forced to work with a firm believer of the paranormal on unexplained occurrences in Los Angeles.

I’m not even going to give this a try. To me it seems a little like ‘Scream Queens’ which I hated.

The GiftedMondays at 9|8c

In a world where mutated humans are treated with distrust and fear, an institute for mutants battles to achieve peaceful co-existence with humanity.

So here’s the thing. I love most things that come from Marvel. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘The Avengers’, ‘Captain America’ and so on. But I don’t like ‘X-Men’, so this show has me a little worried. Based on the synopsis and trailer, I will love this show. But the fact that it’s set in the X-men universe, has me worried. But then again, Amy Acker is in this, so it must be good. Expect reviews to come your way.

The OrvilleThursday at 9|8c

Follows the crew of the not-so-functional exploratory ship in the Earth’s interstellar fleet, 400 years in the future.

Ever since she starred in ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ I’m a fan of Adrianne Palicki, so I will watch this show. However I’m not a fan of Seth MacFarlane so I don’t know how long I will watch this show. I fear that the trailer will have shown the most ‘funny’ items of the show and I wasn’t really laughing my ass off. It was more like I cracked a little smile. But who know, this show might be the biggest surprise of the season. And since 2 Broke Girls got cancelled, I’m in need of a new comedy.

NBC

The BraveSundays at 10|9c

This fresh, heart-pounding journey into the complex world of America’s elite undercover military heroes follows D.I.A. Deputy Director Patricia Campbell and her team of analysts as they wield the world’s most advanced surveillance technology from headquarters in D.C. All the while, Adam Dalton and his heroic Special Ops squad of highly trained undercover specialists use their unbreakable bond and commitment to freedom to save lives of innocent people and execute missions in some of the most dangerous places in the world.

So basically SEAL Team, but without David Boreanaz. Still intriguing enough to make me want to watch this.

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez MurdersTuesdays at 10|9c

This new true-crime installment of the powerhouse “Law & Order” franchise delivers a gripping in-depth dramatization of the notorious murder case that changed America forever. When the Menendez brothers were tried on national TV for brutally killing their parents in Beverly Hills, their story became a national obsession. Now, the first edition of this anthology series delves into the players, the crime and the media circus, detailing the day-to-day battles of the trial and unveiling the shocking truth of what really went down when the cameras stopped rolling.

So being from The Netherlands and being only 2 when the murders happened I don’t know anything about these murders. But they intrigued me enough to look it up and it’s making me want to watch this. I’m not sure yet though if it would intrigue me enough for an entire series or if a documentary would have been better.

Will & GraceThursdays at 9|8c

Will & Grace is a hilarious series about two best friends. The twist is that Will is gay Grace is a straight interior designer. More than friends, but less than lovers, the two share a special bond and their personalities easily balance one another’s. In addition to the stable Will and Grace, the show features Will’s flamboyantly gay friend, Jack and Grace’s sarcastic, spoiled, and boozy assistant, Karen.

I loved the original show and I’m super excited for Will & Grace, and Karen and Jack to return!

The CW

DynastyWednesdays at 9|8c

Fallon Carrington is charismatic, cunning, and poised to become the new COO of her father’s global energy empire – or so she thinks. When her father, Blake Carrington, summons Fallon and her brother, Steven, home in Atlanta, Fallon is horrified to learn that the reunion isn’t to announce her promotion – but rather to make the acquaintance of their stepmother-to-be, Cristal. Family dynasties flow through blood, and Fallon would sooner draw blood than call Cristal “Mom”.

It could get a little too much ‘teen’, but I’m going to give this show a shot, it seems cool. It has a ‘Gossip Girl’ feel to it.

ValorMondays at 9|8c

An elite unit of U.S. Army helicopter pilots called the Shadow Raiders are sent on a top secret mission that goes terribly awry. Only two members of the team return safely: Warrant Officer Nora Madani and her commanding officer, Captain Leland Gallo. Nora and Gallo grow closer, and soon find themselves torn between duty, honor and desire.

After only watching the trailer I want to know what exactly happened, so I’m watching this!

So what will you be watching? And what shows do you want me to write reviews about?

Open letter to the people of SBS Broadcasting

Written by M.

Yes, it’s time for another open letter. After the crap promotion of This Is Us on FOX Netherlands, which still isn’t great but that’s for another time, there is something else that has caught my attention. It seems that SBS Broadcasting, the company behind SBS6, Net5, Veronica and SBS9, has a difficult time to remember which channel is which.

In July 2016 the entire country was shocked when it was announced that after 17 (!) years at NOS, Rik van de Westelaken was leaving for the commercial channel Net5. This is the man that presented the Day of national grief at NOS, after flight MH17 was shot from the sky, which was nominated for an Emmy. He would no longer present our country biggest news program to host programs at the, let’s face it, struggling channel. But I’m not judging that decision, I was actually really excited about that. I’ve been watching the channel for years and years, it was about time that the channel got another stud as a face of the channel again. Because, after Art Rooijakkers left years ago, there hasn’t been that much national eye candy on the channel. I was excited for him to host the program Peking Express, a program that was once one of the highest scoring programs, hoping the show would make a real comeback.

Here we are a year later and if you ask random people out on the street, which channel Rik represents, people would know the answer. Sure, Rik presented Peking Express in April and Rik over the border in May, in which he visited people who live in an unconventional way around the world. But before he even made his debut on the channel he left NOS for, he was the host of the quiz show 5 Golden Rings on sister-channel SBS6 in January. And today it’s announced that Rik will once again present a show on SBS6. This time it for Team Missing Person, a program that used to be on one of our public channels. Which will make it two to two. Which channel is your home Rik?

Rik is not the only one. Airen Mylene has been one of the faces of SBS6 ‘Shownieuws’ since 2014, besides hosting several other shows for the channel. And yet here she was on Net5 in December, hosting VT living: remodel or move. And yet she is announced as a face of SBS6. If you, SBS Broadcasting, can so easily place hosts at another channel, why not present them as a face of SBS Broadcasting, instead of specifying a channel? Wouldn’t that make it easier? That way you can use the hosts’ strong points for each program at all the channels without it coming across messy.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop with the channel’s faces. SBS Broadcasting also has a tendency to shuffle their programs between the channels. For those who don’t know the channels, know this, SBS6 is the family channel, Net5 the female oriented channel, while Veronica is the male oriented channel and then there’s SBS9, which is basically the channel where they schedule all of their stock and reruns. So you’d think that placing a program at a channel is a thought out choice, once a program is placed on a channel, it will stay there. Well that’s not the case. It all started a couple of years ago when Where is de Mol was scoring big on Veronica. In this program the host Johnny de Mol, son of television tycoon John de Mol, traveled across the world. Each week he had a different celebrity and they traveled to the country of their choosing, all the while they conversation-like interview. Because of this people got to see a whole different side of our national celebrities. A beauty of a program and Johnny did this perfectly. All was right for 5 seasons, the ratings were going strong. But there was one problem, according to the high chiefs of SBS, it was scheduled on Veronica and not on their ‘flagship’ SBS6. So it moved, away from Veronica, to find a new home on SBS6, so it could reach more people, they said. Which is kind of ridiculous, neither of the channels is a digital channel. It’s not like in the olden days where a lot people only received 3 channels. If they have SBS6, they also have Veronica, it’s just a matter of switching of channel 6 to channel 9, depending on your provider. But the mighty had spoken, so it had to happen. Not that it mattered, the ratings weren’t that much better and after 2 more seasons Johnny de Mol called it quits and moved to the competition.

Another example is MasterChef. Net5 was airing all of the versions of MasterChef, Australia, UK, Junior, you name it, they aired it. It even got its own MasterChef Holland and was one of Net5 biggest successes of that time. But again the SBS Gods had spoken and to move to SBS6. Ratings were mediocre and Net5 lost its steady success. Where is it now? MasterChef is now back where it started, at Net5, scoring good ratings at access prime time. And SBS6, went back to Trauma Center, the show that MasterChef once replaced. But it goes both ways. NCIS, for years it was SBS6 best rated acquisition. But with everybody streaming, ratings were dropping a little. So it was dumped on Net5, not just the original, but also NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans. Not so bad you think, since it’s actually scoring really well at Net5. But why then air the reruns on SBS6? Wasn’t this channel too good for NCIS?

SBS Broadcasting hasn’t been able to attract the viewers’ attention and keeping them for years. Time and time again a new show has been announced big only to fail to deliver. The last couple years there has been a lot of changes at SBS Broadcasting. The company being sold to two companies, downsized, only to be sold again. But it’s now in the sole hands of John de Mol, the man behind Talpa, who brought you The Voice, with Karin de Groot as Director Television. Will we see some change? Will they figure out the identities of the channels and be able to create some structure? Or will we once again have to search which channel is airing our favorite shows this season?

Dear Corinne,

Written by M.

I was gonna write an article about all the great people that we were gonna see on this season of Bachelor in Paradise. Personally I was torn about Ben Zorn going to Paradise. I loved him on Kaitlyn’s season of The Bachelorette, hated it when he was send home and I absolutely want him to find the love of his life, his happily ever after. And yet… Him going to Paradise increases the chances that he will find all that with someone other than me. Yes, I know it’s foolish, but a woman can dream. Let’s face it, Ben Zorn is the complete package.

And then there’s Robby, my absolute favorite contester last year on JoJo’s search for love. I was rooting for him and cried for him when it was Jordan she loved. But following him on Instagram for the last several months, my love for him has faded a little. Most of what he shows is about looks and I wonder is that all there is to him. So I was excited to see if he could change my opinion and make me love him again.

But then all hell broke loose and Bachelor in Paradise was cancelled, at least for this summer, I’m still hoping that it will return next summer. We’re still not sure about what happened, we’ve only got a few official statements and of course dozens of rumors. Personally I’m not interested to get into every rumor out there. However, yesterday Corinne released her statement and I felt truly sorry for her.

“I am a victim and have spent the last week trying to make sense of what happened on June 4. Although I have little memory of that night, something bad obviously took place, which I understand is why production on the show has now been suspended and a producer on the show has filed a complaint against the production. As a woman, this is my worst nightmare and it has now become my reality. As I pursue the details and facts surrounding that night and the immediate days after, I have retained a group of professionals to ensure that what happened on June 4 comes to light and I can continue my life, including hiring an attorney to obtain justice and seeking therapy to begin dealing with the physical and emotional trauma stemming from that evening.”

We don’t know what really happened and I doubt we’ll ever truly know, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that Corinne feels violated and no woman, no person should ever feel that way. I know what it’s like to be a victim and it doesn’t matter what happened, you’re world will crumble apart. It truly is a nightmare and though you try to wake up, you can’t. This has become your life and you have to fight like hell to make it your own again.

I don’t know Corinne personally, all I know is the Corinne the producers of The Bachelor showed us. In the beginning of the program I didn’t like her because of that. But the longer she was on the show, the more I’ve grown to love her. She has a strong personality and won’t let anyone put her in a corner. She may take some getting used to, but I believe that once she’s in your heart, she’s there to stay.

Dear Corinne, I know how much strength it takes to get back on your feet. And even though I don’t know you, I do know you have this strength in you. I believe you to be one of the most confident people out there, don’t let this change that. Always keep doing what feels right for you, follow your intuition, it’s there for a reason. I praise you for fighting this head on, talking about what happened and what you’re feeling helps, whether it’s with a therapist, family or your amazing friends. I know it may not feel like it now, but I promise everything will get better. You are a strong independent woman and you can put this behind you in time. Keep believing in yourself, I know I do.

Have love,
M

The Bachelorette Season 13 – Let’s Get in the mood

Written by M.

Tonight starts the highly anticipated new season of The Bachelorette. Not only is Rachel Lindsay the first African-American lead and the oldest bachelorette to date, but I’m sure this will be the MOST DRAMATIC season yet. As for her being the oldest, I’m all for it! Why only have bachelors and bachelorettes in their early twenties? They need to figure life out first, let the quest for love be for the people that know what they’re looking for.

And Rachel definitely knows what she is looking for. She wants a man with a good sense of humor, ambition, smart, have a decent jump shot and the ability to talk sports. A man who’ll be willing to compete for her attention with two other men she holds dearly, her nephew Allister and her dog Copper. But don’t dare to be cocky, cockiness is an absolute no go if you’re fighting for her love and heart.

So what do we know about Rachel. Well, if you’ve seen her on Nick’s season of The Bachelor you know Rachel to be a fun, loving and smart young woman with a big personality. She’s a civil defense-lawyer from Dallas and besides being the first African American lead, she was also the first African-American woman to snag the first impression rose.

What can we expect from her this season?
One thing is for sure and that is that she’s be direct. “I’m so direct that I won’t entertain the drama or the pettiness or cattiness in the house. I’ll just deal with situations as they come to me, so if guys come to me about a villain in the house, I’ll be aware of it, my antennas will be up but I’m not going to feed into it too much. That’s not my style. I’m not going to toe the line or be indecisive when I make my decisions. When I know I want to do something I’m just gonna do it.”

She also won’t be afraid to address the race issue. “I always say, it’s something that should be talked about. I’m happy to address it. I’m honored to be the first black Bachelorette. With the guys, you know, if it’s something new to them, then I want to talk about it the same way that I wanted to talk to Nick about it: ‘Have you ever dated a black woman before?’ I’ll talk about my experiences as well. You know, it’s about me, too, but I don’t want it to be something that defines our relationship. But I think it’s something important to address. Those conversations were had later on, but it really wasn’t a theme or an issue during the season,” she revealed.

And in true Bachelor and Bachelorette fashion, she might get a little emotional. “When I was talking to Nick Viall a little bit off camera, he was saying that typically he’s not that sensitive, but you become so invested in this process. He was like, ‘You’ll be surprised, you’ll be more emotional than you think you will be.’ I really wanted to make sure that I didn’t come off as intimidating or too powerful being in that position. I wanted to remain vulnerable and soft for the men and let them know that they could approach me in that way too.” But besides her getting a little emotional, we might even she her breaking point. “I would love to say that it was always sunshine and blue skies, but it’s hard. It’s hard physically, it’s hard emotionally. You really become invested in the men that are there for you. You have no idea how they’re going to impact your life. So I definitely had my days where it’s — it was harder than most, and you’ll see that as you watch the show. You’ll definitely see it.” But being so emotionally invested doesn’t mean that she got intimate in the Fantasy Suites, as this is what she said before filming; “Right as I stand here today, no, I don’t see myself getting intimate with everyone in the fantasy suites. But when you get in that moment, you just don’t know. So we’ll have to wait, watch and see, but no, I don’t see that happening for me.”

So now on to the men, who are the men that are vowing for her heart. You better get comfortable, because Rachel will have the largest group of suitors in Bachelor history, 31 men!

As always, Chris Harrison already called this season the most dramatic season yet. But in all fairness, he did tell us a little something of what we can expect. “There are going to be battles, there are going to be guys that just go after each other. There are two guys that are going after each other, they end up getting sent home on the same night — they almost don’t even care, and they start going after each other in the exit interview. One walks over to the other and starts verbally just going after, abusing him, as he is giving his goodbye speech. Like, they can’t stop this battle, and that is such a guy thing.” But besides fighting, we can also expect tears.  “So, on the Mesnick scale, which is how all emotion scales are weighed, I would say it is a good 7 or 8,” he joked in reference to former Bachelor Jason Mesnick’s infamous balcony meltdown. “I don’t know if it is a full Mesnick — I was trying to think if we had a full Mesnick — I don’t think we go that far, but it’s Mesnickian.”

Here are some other fun facts about Rachel

  • She enjoys jamming out to Michael Jackson and Prince, playing basketball and watching scary movies.
  • Before going on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor, she never saw an episode of The Bachelor
  • She has a thing for musicians and suggested to John Mayer to sign up for The Bachelorette.
  • She is a Belieber.
  • She already admitted to be very much in loved and happily engaged, so she will have her happy ending.
  • She has a thing for penguins, something one of the men used for his limo exit.
  • And most of all, she’ll got engaged! Rachel herself revealed that she is “very much so in love and very much so engaged.”

Since the day is long and the premiere is hours away, take a look at this little sneak preview to get yourself in the mood.

So how are you feeling? Are you still breathing? Have your favorites series been renewed? As for me, I’m very excited that Nashville, Fuller House, Jessica Jones and Suits are renewed. I’m very conflicted about the ending of Pretty Little Liars, though not that about it ending. Personally I feel it has been milked and stretched out too long, but I find that I keep watching in order to get closure. So I’m happy that we’re finding getting answers and for then to let it settle. And last, I really like Young & Hungry! So I’m happy that it’s airing at the moment and I really hope that it will get renewed.

Open letter to the people of FOX TV the Netherlands – Concerning the promotion of This Is Us

Written by M.

As many of you know by now, I am a huge fan of This Is Us. It is the biggest hit of this season and it’s well deserved. It is such a hit that it has been renewed for a second season and not just that, but also a third season! Something that doesn’t happen that much for a freshman series. So understandably I was really excited to hear that This Is Us was coming to the Netherlands. I mean, I already stalked my contacts of the broadcast group SBS to get them to buy this series. However it was not them who wailed in this big fish, it was FOX. And I get why they would want it, since FOX isn’t once of the major channels on Dutch TV, not yet at least. This could be their biggest hit and could mean a lot of (new) viewers, if they back it up with the right marketing campaign.

And that is where it all went wrong. Wrong? How wrong could they be with such an amazing self-selling series? Anyone who has seen it, is hooked. First, let’s take a look at the numbers. Now we do have to remember that FOX is a small channel but I think you’ll get the idea. Last Tuesday night the This Is Us premiered at 22.00 hrs. Right before that was a new episode of Empire and immediately after was Nashville. Now I’m not sure if Nashville was a new episode of a rerun, but all episodes have been on Netflix for quite some time, especially since FOX is in the middle of season 2. This Is Us scored a total viewer ratings of 25.000, an audience share of 0,2 and a market share of 0,5. Empire had 48.000 viewers and scored 0,3 on audience and 0,8 on market share. When Nashville started right after This Is Us, the viewers came back, to 30.000 viewers, an audience share of 0,2 and the market share went up to 0,9. Seriously not something you’d expect from premiering series, that was the biggest hit of the season.
For those who had missed it on Tuesday, could catch the repeat last night, again at 22.00 hrs. This time it had a lead in from the latest episode of Prison Break and this surely did This Is Us (a little) good. This time there were 46.000 viewers, an audience share of 0,3 and market share of 0,8. But compared to Prison Break at 21.00 hrs., 241.00 viewers, audience share of 1,5 and market share of 3,9, it’s nothing. Looking at these rating I am bumped, This Is Us should have scored better.

So why am I so eager to blame the marketing campaign? Well that is because there was NO marketing campaign. None whatsoever. It’s like they totally forgot that This Is Us was scheduled to premiere this week. Simply take a look at their channels Facebook account. The first mention of This Is Us was only last Saturday! 4 Days before the show started! It only got 3 mentions since then and one of them was shared with Prison Break! Speaking of Prison Break, the marketing campaign behind this series is huge! FOX started promoting this since February 25th, five and a half weeks before it started! There was a Prison Break booth at Comic Con and just last week alone the series was mentioned 12 times on FOX’s Facebook page. Now that just doesn’t seem fare! Especially, since Prison Break already has a huge fan base, while This Is Us is totally new. I’m not stupid, I know Prison Break is a FOX original and will get a bigger marketing campaign than any acquisitions. But if you can’t promote a major big new series as This Is Us, than why schedule it to premiere in the same week as Prison Break? It’s not like it’s the beginning of the season, it’s freaking April! But no they had to premiere it in the same week and all they could come up with to promote it was the NBC’s promo, adding the tagline ‘Drama, humor and the right crazy group of people’ and a tacky gif of a shirtless Kevin saying that that is a reason to watch. Seriously? Have you guys not watched this show? Kevin is hardly ever shirtless, expect for in the first episode. Crazy group of people? How about a loving group of people (since you don’t want to give away that they’re a family), all with their own problems and dilemma’s. Or if you really want to throw away any input of your own and copy of others, use the tagline of IMDb ‘Follows a unique ensemble, as their paths cross and their life stories intertwine, from sharing the same birthday, to so much more than anyone would expect.’ or that of TV.com ‘The show follows a bunch of people with the same birthday. It starts with each of them turning 36 and shows us how they all intertwine in everybody else’s lives.’. You could even mention that it’s from the writers and producers of Crazy, Stupid Love or mention the incredible actors that are in this series. Instead they did nothing. So that why I blame the marketing campaign, sounds fair now, doesn’t it.

So dear people of FOX, please pay attention to when you let a brand new series premiere. Give credit where credit is due. So give the biggest hit of the year the right attention, so that it can grow to be hit here as well. Because let’s be honest, you guys want to be a major channel and this is not the way to get there.

That’s it for the big broadcast networks, but there are so many of series that are among our favorites that are on other channels or can be streamed. I will also make a list for these, however will have to wait to later this week.

So how are you feeling? Are you still breathing? Have your favorites series been renewed? As for me, I am grieving the loss of 2 Broke Girls and Frequency. But at the same time I am over the moon that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is saved. For those series who haven’t heard news about their fate, it’s not looking good.

This is Us Season 1 – Review of episode 18 ‘Moonshadow’

Written by M.

The unthinkable has happened. The creators of This Is Us let me down.
All season long it’s been one plot twist after another, every episode had the power to bring me to tears. And yes I easily cry watching TV, but I’ve never had a series that made me cry every episode, but This Is Us was on a roll. That is, until last night.

They promised us an “Impactful and upsetting” episode, but was it?
Sure, they threw in another twist and Jack lives to see another season, but my eyes stayed dry the entire episode. Yes, Jack and Rebecca had a huge fight, one that will impact the lives of their children as Jack will stay at Miguel´s for a while. But it was pretty much the same fight they had last week. Only new thing about this was Jack and alcohol, and even that wasn’t new.

Last week´s episode left us with questions. Will Kevin go back to LA and leave Sophie behind? Why does Kate think that she is responsible for Jack’s death? What will Randall do now that William is dead and he quit his job? Why doesn’t Sophie want to face Kate? It kept us longing for more. But this week? Not only did we hardly get any answers, there wasn’t really anything new. Yes, the fight was bigger that any they had before, as far as we know, and Jack will go to Miguel’s, but that wasn’t really a big shock. There were big, bright neon signs telling us that. So what was the “impactful and upsetting part”? I didn’t see it. I actually checked the duration of the episode to see if there was a part of the episode missing. I was still waiting for the bomb to drop to make this episode emotional, especially since it was set out to be emotional AF. Or at least according to Jon Huertas (Miguel), who said that tissues won’t do.

So wasn’t there anything good about this season finale? Sure, there were good moments. It was nice to see how Jack and Rebecca’s love story started. And it was interesting to see that Jack was about to head down the criminal path, but that meeting Rebecca changed everything. But the best part of the episode was Jack telling Rebecca all the reasons of why he loves her now.

“I love the mother that you are.
I love that you are still the most beautiful woman in any room and that you laugh with your entire face.
I love that you dance funny and not sexy, which makes it even sexier.
But most of all, I love that you are still the same woman who, all those years ago, ran out of a blind date because she simply had to sing.
You’re not just my great love story, Rebecca.
You, You were my big break.
Our love story, I know it may not feel like it right now, but baby
I promise, it’s just getting started.”

Was it enough to safe the episode? No, at least not to me. For me, this episode will go down as the worst episode of This Is Us of this season and the first episode that didn’t bring me to tears. Hopefully they will pick up full force next season.

Also

  • Kevin is going to LA to meet the director, but it’s not if he gets the part or even will take the part.
  • Kate and Toby are back in LA and it is as if the entire “It’s my reason my father is dead” conversation hadn’t even taken place.
  • Randall wants to adopt a baby. Because of course. It’s always wise to make this big life changing decisions after a loved one dies, because we are so mentally stable at those moments.

That’s a wrap for this season of This is Us.
See you in the fall!

Countdown to Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life – 1 Day Left!

Written by M.

1 DAY LEFT!!!

01-day-left

I can’t believe it, we’re only one night of sleep away!
High time to focus our attention on what I’m expecting tomorrow.
So here it is, the last one, Crash Course Lesson #30

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

I had hoped that I had more time this week to research for this article.
But this week was also my therapy week, which means I had a lot less time to research.
In a way I’m not that sad about it, because even though I’m dying to know what we can expect, I’m also really eager to be surprised.

There for this article doesn’t hold much facts.
Even though I had marked so many pages in the last couple of weeks with articles on the coming series, I couldn’t make myself to read them. I would only read them to research this article. So there are many things known  about this revival that I’m still oblivious too and I must say, I like it.
The page that I did look at and what my theories in this articles are based on, is the IMDb page of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Before you continue, if you wish to be oblivious about what you can expect and just want to be surprised; Stop reading!
Though this article doesn’t hold much information and is mostly my thoughts, I don’t want to be held responsible for ruining your surprise and fun.

What is it that I know?

I know this 4 seasons revival is brought to us by series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, with the help of Netflix. This revival will cover a year in the life of our beloved girls, each episode will be another season, starting with Winter, then Spring, Summer and ending with Fall.

So who is returning?
Well all of our girls are returning, Lorelai and Rory, but also the other Gilmore Girl Emily. In this series, Richard Gilmore will not return. Actor Edward Herrmann has passed away in December 2014, and Richard Gilmore has passed away in the gap between the end of season 7 and the start of A Year in the Life. When? I don’t know exactly. This could be recent, given the images at the cemetery as seen in the promo. But, in the promo, I’ve also heard Emily say that she was married to Richard for 50 years, indicating that Richard would have died in 2014.
Besides them, I welcome Luke, Lane, Michel, Logan, Kirk and Ceasar back for all four episodes. Besides them, there are two new characters who will appear in all four episodes; Alejandro, played by Frank Gallegos, and Bertha’s Kid, played by Julio Umana. This immediately creates questions? Who is Alejandro? And who is Bertha? For Alejandro, I have two options. One; he’s the cook of The Dragonfly Inn, especially since Sookie will only be in one episode. Second; he’s Michel’s lover, though it was never confirmed that Michel is guy, it was hinted throughout the series. As for Bertha’s Kid, I have no idea.

Taking a look at the credits list on IMDb, I saw that Dean will only be returning for one episode (Fall) and Jess for three episodes (Spring, Summer and Fall). Based on that I think it safe to say that Rory and Dean won’t end up together. Another thing that supports that theory is that we get to meet a Lacey Forester. Could she be Dean’s new wife?

Speaking of wives, will there be a Gilmore wedding?
Let’s think about a wedding between Lorelai and Luke, who would be there?
I know Luke won’t get married unless April could be there and I think he would also want Jess and Liz there. And for Lorelai, of course she will want Rory there, that’s a given. But besides Rory, I would say she would want her mother and Sookie there. So is this possible? From what I know now, I’d say no, we won’t get to see a wedding between Lorelai and Luke. Why? That’s simple, April will only appear in the Summer episode, where Liz won’t appear at all. And Sookie will only appear in the Fall episode. So based on the credits information, I think it’s safe to say Luke and Lorelai won’t get married.

But will Rory end up married? And if so, to who? As I said, Dean is out of the running for this, but Jess and Logan are still in the race. Again I take a look at the IMDb credits and I think that Logan would be the safer bet. Of course this is something what would make me happy, since I’m team Logan, but that’s beside the point. It’s based on that Finn, Colin and Robert all appear in the Fall episode. Not only them, but in the Fall episode a ‘Josie’ will come around! Is this THE Josie that Colin and Finn have been after since we met them? Something that will contradict this theory is that Miss Patty, Babette and Taylor will not appear in the Fall episode. I guess it’s possible for Rory to have a wedding without them, but it still feels a little strange. Sookie however is in the Fall episode and if you’ve seen the promo, you can see that there is a giant cake in the kitchen? Could this be a wedding cake?

Or will she marry Jess? Again I would say it would be in the Fall episode, simply because Christopher will only appear in that episode, though this could also support the Logan theory. Or will there be a Stars Hollow wedding in the other episodes and will Christopher make the biggest of his bad father decisions and not be there? I hope not! I’ve always been a fan of Christopher and I like seeing him and Rory like we have since the end of season 6. But here again I say, Liz and TJ are not listed to appear in this revival. I know that Jess won’t care much if TJ would be there, but you’d think he’d like to have his mother there. Or is Luke enough for him?

Then there is another thing that caught my eye.
Are we getting a new theme song?
We all know ‘Where You Lead’ by heart and for me that song will forever be connected to the Gilmore Girls. But where Carole King is credited on IMDb for returning as Sophie Bloom, she is not credited for the theme song for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Though I don’t think ASP would give us an entirely new song, this is raising questions with me.

As you can, I don’t know a lot. The IMDb page actually created a lot of questions for me, more than expected.

  • Who is Alejandro?
  • Who is Bertha and why are two of her kids mentioned in the credits list where she is not?
  • Is Josie, THE Josie, that Colin and Finn have been drooling for since we met them?
  • Is there a new or a new version of the theme song?
  • In which episode will Chilton’s Headmaster Hanlin Charleston appear? I’ve seen him in pictures and based on the fact that I saw Paris in the same picture, it would mean either Winter or the Spring episode.
  • Where are Liz and TJ, and of course Doula?
  • Where are Lucy and Olivia? They are not mentioned in the IMDb page? Will they really not appear? I hope they will, I liked the effect that they had on Rory. To live a little less planned and enjoy the ride a little more.
  • And then there is one question, that has been bugging me since season 5 and I hope that it will finally be answered. What is Robert’s last name? On the IMDb page he is mentioned as Robert Grimaldi, but we know that’s only the name Rory gave Lorelai in the hopes of calming her down.

Now it’s time for me to get some sleep before the big day of tomorrow!
For me, at this point, the saying of ‘Ignorance is bliss’ applies and I hope Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life can make me feel as good as Gilmore Girls has always been able to.

Have love,
M

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 10’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

Well…. where to begin. The season finale starts of with a press conference they did after My Roanoke Nightmare…. A YouTube clip from a huge fan from London followed by a YouTube clip from one of the Polk brothers, ready for revenge. Then an Oprah like introduction of Lee Harris that was prosecuted for several deaths.

ahs-s6-ep-10-001

The real Flora testifies against her mother in court as she sees her mom kill her dad Mason. This gets a strange twist when the real Flora tells the jury about her imaginative ghost friend Priscilla. Lee is found not guilty.

Then the best part starts of this season’s finale when Lana Winters introduces Lee as her special guest for an exclusive interview. (amazing to see Sarah Paulson as Lana again from season 2 Asylum). The interview is brutally disturbed by the Polk who kills and gets killed.

ahs-s6-ep-10-002

After that we see a program introduction called Chasing Spirits… we follow three people that are trespassing the house from My Roanoke Nightmare to make their documentary…. with a special guest, the actor that played Cricket in the reenactment. Of course on the evening before the Blood Moon. They find Lee in the house looking for her daughter. Creepy and scary things start to happen and the Spirit Chasers try to escape but get killed.

Lee is still in the house with Flora surrounded by the police and a live news broadcast. The world thinks that Flora is a hostage now from her own mom. And what we knew all along….. not Lee is the last person surviving but her own daughter (she told us herself )is the one walking out of that house alive. Lee gave her life to keep Priscilla safe so Flora could live a full life and get out of there.

Was I satisfied? No!….. okay is was a very complete end to this incredible story but to be honest this was the least interesting episode, too many flashbacks…. and I still have a lot of questions.

Luckily we won’t have to wait long for next season. What does Ryan Murphy have in store for us? Check this link.
