American Horror Story Season 7 – Review of Episode 04 ‘11/9’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada.

We start off with a flashback to election night, live broadcasted by Beverly Hope. All characters we met are somewhere in a long waiting que outside to vote. Kai comes in with the supermarket owner Gary, blood dripping out of his coat. We see them all vote and Gary comes out of the booth, takes of his coat and shows his bloody arm with a just cut off hand, screaming; ” Welcome to Trumps America mother fuckers”

Another powerful and explaining storyline shows us how Kai and Harrison met, Harrison as Kai’s fitness instructor is at the worst point in his life, losing his house and his job. Kai carefully and erotically seduces Harrison urging him to take control of his life and make a difference. To be honest, the Kai jerk off scene in the gym shower with Harrison watching was beyond hot!

Next Kai has his eye on Beverly to join his cult. Beverly at that moment in an ongoing fight with young and sexy reporter Serina Belinda, who is fucking her way up with their boss Bob played by (so cool) Dermot Mulroney. Kai needs to win Beverly’s trust and getting rid of Serina does the job.

In another flashback from before the election during a demonstration we see how Winter and Ivy meet for the first time. Ivy gets into a heated discussion with Gary regarding their political differences. Gary grabs Ivy by the pussy and Winter attacks Gary to help her. They are planning a revenge. And this episodes cliffhanger directly explains the opening scene. Very nicely done!

So who is in the cult?, Meadow is, Harrison is, Beverly is, Winter is, I think detective Samuels is and what about Dr. Rudy Vincent? And I have the idea that Ivy is part of it too. What do you think?

This episode was created so amazingly good and this 7th season is getting better by the minute. And people please stop nagging about irrelevant topics like; which season was better, the amount of sex and the gore effects. Just enjoy an extremely creative good show each year.

American Horror Story Season 7 – Review of Episode 03 ‘Neighbors from Hell’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada.

For me this is the best episode so far…. I loved the opening scene and Dr. Rudy Vincent is getting scary and weird. Helping his clients to deal with different kinds of phobias but somehow their experience is getting worse. Could he be part of the Cult?

Last week’s murder at Ally’s house made their community gone mad and protesting against her for being a murderer and a racist, a very relevant topic at this moment I must add. Quote; “she turns out to be a lesbian George Zimmerman” according to Beverly Hope, reporter from the local news channel WBNR.

Crazy new neighbors Harrison & Meadow show up in Mexican outfits on Ally’s doorstep to make very clear they don’t want murdering racists in their neighborhood. Got to love Billy Eichner.

The most disturbing moment in this episode that freaked me out is not a gruesome murder, not a jump out of your seat shock effect but actually a very relaxed moment when Ally calls their crazy neighbors at night why they gave their son Oz a guinea pig. You see Harrison & Meadow watching a TV show together with……. detective Samuels…… WTF is that all about!?!?!?!? At this moment a lot of things are going on in my mind. Are they all in on it? Are they working together to eliminate certain people? And for the first time I am wondering, who of these people are disguised as those 4 killer clowns.

A very entertaining and diverse episode. Kai showing up every time to reassure Ally that she is handling it all very good. The newspaper ad that calls out for guys to show up at the house of 2 horny lesbians. The pinky cult moments and what is up with that chemical truck?

It is clear, all is set up to attack Ally, but for what? Trying to get her to join a cult, turning her into a killer clown? Let’s see what happens next.

American Horror Story Season 7 – Review of Episode 02 ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada.

Clowns, clowns and more clowns. Ally is still in her delusional phase waking up next to one of the clown mask wearing home invaders and running downstairs to fetch Ivy to help her. But of course he is gone, you may think. At the same time their son is terrorised by Twisty and the 3-faced clown.

I personally loved this episode, it is not really action-packed but they are building up towards something bigger I guess. 2 main things happen;
Last week Ally and Ivy’s friends and neighbours were killed by killer clowns in their own home, Oz and Winter were watching the whole scene from the outside. Winter is trying to fill his mind with evil content and weird enough the kid is somehow attracted to it, he didn’t even blink when Ivy introduced him to the dark web online. New characters arrive as their new neighbours, Harrison (Billy Eichner) and Meadow Wilton (Leslie Grossman), a couple that claim to be not scared easily. And yes all the shows bee teasers start to make sense because Harrison is a beekeeper.
At Ally and Ivy’s restaurant there is a big argument happening between the second in command Roger with one of the staff members Pedro. Ally takes care of business and breaks them up, an important scene that paves the way to a great cliffhanger in the end. That same evening the restaurants alarm goes off and Ally is going to check it out finding Roger seemingly dead hanging on a meat hook.

Ally is getting more scared every minute and installs bars on every window and door at their house to feel more safe. Kai is showing up on her doorstep to convince her to vote for him to feel more safe, I am not gonna say too much about this scene because you just need to watch it. Here we see the reason why Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are regulars on American Horror Story.
As Ally is tired and stressed Winter prepares her a nice hot bath (and why Winter still is the nanny? I have no clue. Anyone else would have fired her on the spot after the next door murders). This is one of the first erotic scenes where Winter tries to seduce Ally and the moment is brutally disturbed by the security alarm. All power gets cut off, Ivy is at the restaurant working and Winter runs off to her own house after next door neighbour Harrison is at the front door telling them to stay in the house.
It is dark, there is panic, Ally gets one of her breakdowns again and I must say you can really feel the danger in and around the house. Is it real, is it a dream? The surprise ending makes you want to see more!

American Horror Story Season 7 – Review of Episode 01 ‘Election Night’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada.

It is finally here, season 7 of one of the most visually creative and original series of all time.
This could become the most controversial season to date, start a story with the November 8 2016 election night and show how divided America really is? Wow. This truly is an American Horror Story.

The tone is set when we meet middle-class Ally (Sarah Paulson), a working mother in a same-sex marriage with Ivy (Alison Pill) that breaks down in front of the t.v. when Trump becomes their new President. On the other side of the city at that moment we meet Kai (Evan Peters), a second hand blue haired Joker who is beyond extatic and convinced that America is finally free and rubbing it in towards his pro-Clinton sister Winter (Billie Lourd).

Fear is portrayed as the biggest theme of this season. Especially Ally’s phobias are presented well in this 1st episode, (killer) clowns, tiny holes, enclosed spaces and blood. I can imagine if you have a fear of clowns watching this episode must be nerve wrecking. Sarah Paulson’s acting is spot on from the 1st scene and to me Alison Pill is completely miscast.

The absolute highlight for me is the copied scene from Freakshow with Twisty the Clown just after the opening credits. And it is only the beginning but Evan Peters and Billie Lourd’s characters seem totally fucked up and could become very interesting in this story.

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 10’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

Well…. where to begin. The season finale starts of with a press conference they did after My Roanoke Nightmare…. A YouTube clip from a huge fan from London followed by a YouTube clip from one of the Polk brothers, ready for revenge. Then an Oprah like introduction of Lee Harris that was prosecuted for several deaths.

The real Flora testifies against her mother in court as she sees her mom kill her dad Mason. This gets a strange twist when the real Flora tells the jury about her imaginative ghost friend Priscilla. Lee is found not guilty.

Then the best part starts of this season’s finale when Lana Winters introduces Lee as her special guest for an exclusive interview. (amazing to see Sarah Paulson as Lana again from season 2 Asylum). The interview is brutally disturbed by the Polk who kills and gets killed.

After that we see a program introduction called Chasing Spirits… we follow three people that are trespassing the house from My Roanoke Nightmare to make their documentary…. with a special guest, the actor that played Cricket in the reenactment. Of course on the evening before the Blood Moon. They find Lee in the house looking for her daughter. Creepy and scary things start to happen and the Spirit Chasers try to escape but get killed.

Lee is still in the house with Flora surrounded by the police and a live news broadcast. The world thinks that Flora is a hostage now from her own mom. And what we knew all along….. not Lee is the last person surviving but her own daughter (she told us herself )is the one walking out of that house alive. Lee gave her life to keep Priscilla safe so Flora could live a full life and get out of there.

Was I satisfied? No!….. okay is was a very complete end to this incredible story but to be honest this was the least interesting episode, too many flashbacks…. and I still have a lot of questions.

Luckily we won’t have to wait long for next season. What does Ryan Murphy have in store for us? Check this link.

Season 7 will start in Spring 2017 Season 7 will have some main characters from Freak Show Season 7 and 8 will have huge connections to other seasons There will be a crossover season from too previous ones; Coven & Murder House Ryan is working on a secret season only he and 1 other writer knows about.

” So a lot of American Horror Story to come “

My top 6 of the seasons so far….

  1. Asylum
  2. Roanoke
  3. Murder House
  4. Hotel
  5. Freak Show
  6. Coven

See you again in Spring 2017

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 09’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

It is daytime in the North Carolina woods; 2 guys and a girl fully equipped with Go Pro’s, camping gear and their cell phones who are major fans of The Roanoke Nightmare are destined to find something they have seen on the show to boost their website and to gain more viewers. (and yes there she is, Taissa Farmiga) The very unsteady camera movements give us a scary chaotic kind of feeling to their journey, remember Blair Witch. Out of nowhere ahead of them they see a young woman that looks hurt…. but she(of course) is running away so they run after her to help her. They run towards a crashed car and get totally freaked out when they see the girl in the car now, dead, but wait that’s the assistant from Sydney that got attacked in her car by The Pig man. Wow!! very clever move to integrate the past into reality (again).

Last week’s cliffhanger was The Pig Man at the front door of the house but under the pigs head we found Dylan…. the actor that played The Butchers son in the reenactment (Wes Bentley). Sydney told him to be there for additional shock value to the show. The 2 survivors in the house (still not gonna tell you who that is ;p ) explain to Dylan that the show became reality and all the others are dead. They create a plan to get the hell out of there and decide to steal one of the Polk’s cars.

From here on it is all horror and deaths and as you all know by now, only one will survive….. but who? I can tell you the 3 hikers definitely not. And Dylan neither.
As Ryan promised us Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson) from season 2 Asylum will join this season in the last episode. A Lana Winters Special.
Still on our minds, is there only one survivor or are we all fooled or is there only one death?? There are so many twist this season that even till the last minute we are not sure if what we are seeing is what we are seeing.

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 08’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

Beef jerky made from arms and legs, a sudden cut throat suicide, smashing in heads with a hammer, pulling teeth with pincers, slaughtered by the Pig man and cutting of an ear with a quote to remember;

Jether; ‘ It’s for Christmas, we each get a pickled ear’

I can tell you, the suspense we felt in the first 6 episodes is completely gone, we are now on the torture train towards the end of the season. The scenes remind you of Hostel and Saw. Even mama Polk gives us the best version of Hannibal Lector’s slurping sound in Silence of the Lambs.

Last week’s scene ended with The real Butcher slicing Agnes’s head in two, not a scene you want to replay. But did you see that The Butcher has pig’s feet as hands? Dominic and Shelby witness everything from closed doors of their house and try to escape through the secret tunnel but halfway there the Asian Yin girls crawl to them to kill. Dominic and Shelby start screaming and run back upstairs but back into the house there is complete chaos and only threats, the Yin sisters, the 2 nurses, the Pig man.

In the mean time Lee is still tied up to a chair by the Polks where mama Polk and her son Jether (Finn Wittrock) are planning to eat Lee piece by piece. The weird thing is, we see camera views from different angles, did Sydney set this up? are the Polks in on it? is Sydney related to the Polks? This feels very strange and you are on the edge of your seat but are we sure we are watching what we are watching? Lee telling Flora on camera that she in fact did kill her daddy. (how in the hell did she get the body on that wheel on her own)

Audrey and Monet are still fed and tortured by the other Polk brothers. They are starting to collect their teeth. This causes Monet’s chair to break and she gets in a fight with them and escapes into the woods leaving Audrey on her own. Mama Polk orders them to get Monet and is destined to finish the job with Audrey.

What happens next to Lee, Monet, Audrey, Shelby and Dominic is for you to find out, I will only tell you 2 of them won’t survive.

Interesting detail at the end. The Pig man is at the front door and it is Ambrose White, who played The Butchers son.

I can imagine if you read about Roanoke (and even if you watch it) it is very difficult to figure out all the characters. Here an overview;

Sarah Paulson plays Shelby Miller, Sarah Paulson is Audrey Tindall
Evan Peters plays Edward Mott, Evan Peters is Rory Monahan
Kathy Bates plays Thomasin White, Kathy Bates is Agnes Winstead
Angela Bassett plays Lee Harris, Angela Bassett is Monet Tumusiime
Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Matt Miller, Cuba Gooding Jr. is Dominic Banks
Lily Rabe is Shelby Miller
Adina Porter is Lee Harris
André Holland is Matt Miller

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 07’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

Is it even possible in this season of AHS that it gets better and better each episode? I can answer that with a loud out YES! I must say I am already very sad that we only get 10 episodes this season instead of 13. Ryan Murphy has only 3 episodes left to amaze us even more.

What happened this week in the “Big Brother” set-up with the cast. We know only one will survive, but who? Sydney is super excited about his new reality show and he is watching everything in his production trailer together with a cameraman and an assistant. The cameraman sees something happening to Rory (the first one that got killed) on one of the screens, then we hear Sydney’s assistant scream from outside…… both guys run out of the trailer and Sydney gets attacked with an axe by Agnes, who is totally flipping by now and returning to her role as the Butcher. Wow 3 deaths within a few minutes.

Last week it ended when Matt (the real one) walked into the kitchen saying “R is for Rory”, but where is he? They search the house and find blood on the floor upstairs where Rory got murdered by the 2 ghost nurses (Blood Moon remember!). Audrey (actress playing Shelby) still thinks it’s a set up cause Rory wanted to leave because of another offer for a movie, so she thinks he staged it.

In the confession booth we see Dominic sharing with us that Sydney hired him to get ratings, and that he gave Dominic a body cam to record everything. In the meantime Shelby (the real one) breaks down in the bedroom. She notices blood on the camera on the bed and at that moment Agnes walks in and chases after her with a butcher knife. She slashes Shelby’s neck, and Shelby starts filming her to tell the world what happened. Dominic sees Matt (the real one) wonder through the kitchen walking like he is sleepwalking and goes into the basement where he talks to someone we can’t see yet though we can hear him; “I’ve been waiting for you,” he says. Dominic thinks it is strange and gets Shelby to show her what’s happening. In the corner we see The Witch of the Woods (but now the real one on top of Matt) Shelby pulls her of Matt and Matt tells Shelby; “leave her alone, I don’t love you anymore, the only reason I came back here is because of her” Cool thing is we cannot clearly see who plays the “real” Witch, is it Taissa Farmiga? Then one of the most shocking scenes until now happens, Shelby is going mad and starts to smash Matt’s whole head like pulp. (I got a huge flashback to the 1st episode of The Walking Dead, season 7, from this week).

Really, there is happening so much this week, Lee (the real one), Lee (the actress) and Shelby (the actress) try to escape through the secret underground passage when they get scared by Agnes (the actress Butcher) that is confronted outside their front door with The ‘’real” Butcher. I promise you this doesn’t end well. MY HEAD IS SPINNING! Lee’s (the real one) leg is getting oiled and cooked to feed to Lee the actress and Shelby the actress. Did we see the real Andrew Mott in the tunnel? And is it Matt Bomer? And finally we got a glimps of Finn Wittrock as one of the real Polk sons who is in charge of the camera when abducting the real Lee.

Okay, I have to watch the last three episodes again and again, I am so overwhelmed by all these layers of this season. One word: ART! A recap on who we lost these last 2 weeks (and will probably return as ghosts); – Rory (the actor that played Edward Mott) – Matt (the real one) – Sydney (the producer) – Sydney’s 1rst assistant – Sydney’s 2nd assistant – Sydney’s cameraman – Agnes (the actress that played The Butcher)

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 06’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

We all knew there was going to be a major plot twist this episode. But did it live up to our expectations?

The storytelling of each season is detailed, original and visually stunning. My Roanoke Nightmare brings us even more, this one is beyond clever. First we have the “original” Matt, Shelby and Lee who told us their story about being the survivors (documentary style) and the story is being portrayed by actors in a dramatic reenactment. In the beginning this felt unnecessary and strange but now we know it is PURE GENIUS.

This chapter starts off with the director of My Roanoke Nightmare, Sidney Aaron James (Cheyenne Jackson), who convinces the network to take on his second installment of Roanoke with the new title ‘Return to Roanoke; Three Days in Hell’. And Sidney proved on multiple occasions that he would do whatever necessary to get the new reality show off the ground, regardless of the consequences. Juicy detail is that during preparations a lot of things go wrong at the house so history is repeating already.

Sidney is determined to go back to the house (of course during the Blood Moon), redesigns the house in the woods into a Big Brother kind of setting and brings the cast back as well as the ‘real’ Mat and Shelby. This even brings more levels to this season. Are you still with me? The reenactment cast is not playing anymore but being themselves and yes…… they also have their personal opinions about the realness of the original story they had to play.

Part 2 of this season has just began. In the house so far Sidney invited (with a big paycheck of course) the real Matt, Shelby and Lee, the 3 actors who played them and the actor that played Edward Mott (Evan Peters).

As a viewer we know already that only one of them is going to survive. And the big question is, who? and why?. And what is going to happen to the last man or woman standing. Don’t forget, we are still on The Butchers land and the Blood Moon has just appeared.

Mind boggling is an understatement at this point. We have so many questions, or at least, I have!

  • is the story of the “real” Matt and Shelby true?
  • why would they even go back to the house, only for the money?
  • are we going to meet the “real” Witch, the “real” Butcher (still hoping for Jessica Lange to return)
  • who will Taissa Farmiga be?
  • who will Finn Wittrock be?
  • do we really only get 10 episodes?
  • who is behind the Pig mask?

For me these scenes in this episode are memorable, I had my biggest scare until now with the car scene (WTF!!). Did you all see Cheyenne’s ass when he was running to the tree? (sexy as hell). I don’t think many of you noticed it but you hear a very creepy voice say “welcome back” just before Sarah Paulson gets out of the hot tub.

One thing is for sure, Ryan Murphy has us by the throat and is not going to stop soon.

American Horror Story Season 6 – Review of ‘Chapter 05’

Written by Jurgen Carper Caminada

Okay I was going crazy about chapter 4 dear AHS lovers but chapter 5 completely blew my mind. Evan Peters and Frances Conroy are finally back. And what an entrance they both get in this season.

This chapter started with real-life historian Doris Kearns Goodwin talking about the history of the house and the story owner Edward Philippe Mott (ancestor of Dandy, yes from Freak Show) and how much carnage he encountered while building the place in the 18th Century. Edward (Evan Peters) is an fanatic art lover and shares his passion and sexual life with one of his favorite servants (most erotic scene in AHS since a long time)

After he thinks one of the servants destroyed all his art but doesn’t receive any confession he throws them into the shed… left there to die (the shed where Matt and Shelby found the video from Elias). His lover is furious about that but Edward reminds him very clearly saying;

“Let me remind you, you are also a servant, your velvet tongue and purple cockhead do not make you more than that”

2 days later Edward is taken and gets killed by The Butcher (what a genius visual reminder of AHS Hotel’s mattress scene).

We now received a lot of historical information of the house and its residents and last week we learned that they all come alive during the Blood Moon.

Matt and Shelby are still stuck in the house hiding in their basement with The Butcher outside waiting to slaughter them. Then Edward appears to help them escape using a secret tunnel that ends up in the woods. Trying to find their way into the woods (Matt, Shelby and Flora), they get kidnapped by The Hilbillies, who are determined to hand them over to The Butcher.

What happens next? Well I am not gonna tell you because it’s all starting to make sense (if that’s even possible) in some kind of crazy way. We surely get prepared for next episode, remember Ryan promised us a huge plot twist. And from the very short teaser for next Wednesday (introducing Cheyenne Jackson) we learn that it is just called AHS Roanoke instead of My Roanoke Nightmare.

Wow what an episode. I loved all the hints to the classic horror movies like The Grudge, The Shining, Misery, Hostel and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And I have to make a personal statement; there was no Lady GaGa this week and that was SO MUCH BETTER, I’m not saying she is not owning her part but she doesn’t add anything to AHS.
